Following the Yellow Brick Road through Alcohol Rehabilitation

You are somewhere over the rainbow and it’s time to find a way out of the whirlwind you have been on. The yellow brick road Dorothy and friends took to see the great Wizard ended well for them, but your yellow brick road is not doing so well. You have promised friends and family to go into alcohol rehab and/or find an alcohol rehab center, but you know that you were fantasizing to them. You had no intention to leave your one crusade to destroy your life.

It has been going so well for you. No one phones you anymore and no drop by visitors to chase away. The last people you saw at your home told you to, “Get yourself to an alcohol rehabilitation program, forever!” Then the door slammed. You were almost mortified as you poured yourself another drink. That night you thought you saw Dorothy pouring drinks for the Tin Man. Then your eyes adjusted and it was you pouring whiskey all over the television. Wake up call: you needed the television and now it was toast.

You scrambled to the library to use one of their computers to search for alcohol rehabs that offer quality alcohol treatment for your small issue. Your computer went the same way as the television, except that time it was water to put out the imaginary fire on the computer. The library was another hassle for you, but you had all the time in the world to waste looking for a spot to find an alcohol rehab program that could accommodate you, because you knew the bugs and screams would be part of the drug detox, which will cast all the evil spirits of alcohol from your being.

You even asked the stupid question, “Do you have padded rooms?” You didn’t want to scare anyone as you went through the drug detox part. Fortunately, for you that was not a stupid question. This facility actually did have a couple of padded rooms in case you needed to have extra restraints.

Ready? Yes, you were more than ready for what was to come. Losing friends for you was a big thing. You liked having people around, but it has been clear for months that no one wanted to be around you. Stepping into the alcohol rehab center brought you face to face with reality, no more television sets that look odd or computers catching fire. This was real life and you were now in possession of the power and strength that you thought you needed to quit using alcohol, a lifetime commitment to yourself, for yourself.
