Tai Chi Vs Yoga
The basic meaning of “Tai” is “great” or “extreme” and the meaning of “Chi” is “pole”, so “Tai Chi” together means “extreme poles”. It is also linked to yin yang as they both are opposite to each other. Tai Chi means to balance. One needs to balance its energy. It works by utilizing the internal energy of the person. Many of us have heard Tai Chi as a martial art form but more that being a martial art form its goal is the healing of spiritual, mental and physical part of the person. Similarly people have heard “Yoga” more in Gyms and other places to make a person fit. “Yoga” is derived from Sanskrit work “yuj” whose goal is to unite the person practicing it from God. In modern term both have common goal of spiritual, mental and physical healing. Both have different ways to achieve it.
An extrovert person should definitely opt for Tai Chi and other can go for Yoga. Both need dedication to achieve goal. Tai Chi is not just limited to spiritual healing but can also teach a person art of self defense. One need to be very dedicated and have to spend some time daily to achieve the ultimate goal of the Tai Chi. It is very difficult process if one want to become the ultimate master of the technique in Tai Chi but then the benefits that one will have from it will be much more than what can even expect who is not familiar with this technique. There are various styles that one can choose that are available in Tai Chi depending on one’s requirement.
Yoga is mostly practiced today for the mental peace and to free one from any stress. This is done by meditating. One can opt for any posture or postures from various postures that are available in the Yoga teaching depending of the person’s need. A person suffering from stomach disorder may opt for different posture then that who is suffering from mental stress.
If a person wants more then what yoga can give then one should go for Tai Chi but then one need more time then Yoga otherwise one may go for any one of them.
Keep in mind, you don’t necessarily have to choose between Yoga and Tai Chi. When asked, “do you like Peanut Butter or Jelly?”, the correct asnwer is of course: “Both!”. Why not do a bit of Yoga in the morning and some Tai Chi at night? You don’t even need expensive exercise equipment to benefit from these ancient traditions. Imagine a home gym that has a Yoga Mat, some Tai Chi balls, maybe a nice poster of Wudan mountain on the wall and that’s it. Minimal clutter, maximum results. Just a suggestion.
